Report 2008-2011 for MedEvent
Summary of Report of the Norwegian Board of Health Supervision 4/2012
In this report, the Norwegian Board of Health Supervision presents the findings from an analysis of 7756 reports of adverse events that patients have experienced while receiving treatment from specialized health services. These reports have been reported to the supervision authorities and registered in MedEvent in the period 2008-2011.
The most important findings for the period 2008-2011 are
- 7756 reports were registered in MedEvent.
- The number of reports of incidents that have resulted in unnatural death was 1456 – 19 per cent of all reports.
- 20 per cent of reports were from mental health services. 44 per cent of these were reports of unnatural death.
- The number of reports of unatural death as a result of suicide increased from 76 in 2008 to 132 in 2011. Nearly all these reports were from mental health services, but a few were from somatic health services.
- 14 per cent of all reprts were reports of incidents related to medication.
- 11 per cent of all reports were reports of incidents related to falls.
- 8 per cent of all reports were reports of incidents related to births.
- There was large variation in the number of reports received by the Norwegian Board of Health Supervision in the Counties. 27 per cent of all reports (2112 reports) were registered by the Norwegian Board of Health Supervision in Oslo and Akershus.
